Incredible Campgrounds in Norway and Sweden

On our road trip around Scandinavia we camped everywhere. We camped in the forest, surrounded by nothing but the birds and the trees, we camped out in our car a couple of nights because of late nights and horrific weather, and we set up our tent on properly organised camping grounds.

We were thoroughly impressed by the camping culture in both Sweden and Norway. Whenever we came across a campsite, it was always clean, maintained, had some sort of bathroom facility and usually an awesome view. I have never been to a country with such incredible facilities for campers, we honestly couldn't get over it. Of course the prices were sometimes a little purse worrying, however, if you consider the cost of ANYTHING in Norway and Sweden, then the prices are pretty reasonable and even cheap in some places. Note to all travellers to Sweden and Norway: it is very pricey compared to some other places in the world. I can honestly say I was constantly flabbergasted whenever I had to do a bit of math to convert our grocery bills. Nevertheless, it was worth every single penny.

For those of you looking for cute, quirky or beautiful campgrounds to add to your list, here are some of our favourites.

Blejfell Camping, Norway

Address: 3652 Hovin i Telemark, Norway

Website: http://blefjellcamping.no/

Why we loved it:

  • This was the first campground we stayed in while in Norway and it was beautiful and the bathrooms were spotless

  • It is right on Sandvatn Lake

  • We were able to rent a canoe and go out on the lake

  • There are lots of little hikes to go on around

  • Perfect spot to watch the sunset and enjoy our breakfast right on the lake.

  • The woman working at the front office was extremely friendly and helpful.

Lofthus Camping, Norway

Why we loved it:

  • Surrounded by fruit orchards and overlooks the fjord, mountains and glaciers = spectacular, spectacular.

  • We were able to pick where ever we wanted to set up our tent, we went right to the very edge and had a completely unobstructed view.

  • Clean bathrooms, and they had laundry facilities and a cute little log room we were able to snuggle up inside.

  • 1 hour drive from Trolltunga.

Sande Camping, Loen, Norway

  • Incredible view of Lovatnet (an incredibly beautiful lake).

  • We were able to put our tent on a grassy ledge, so that there were no caravans in the way of the view.

  • Clean bathrooms and Laundry facilities.

  • Short 25 minute drive to Briksdalsbreen, the most famous glacier in the area.

Kjerag Lysebotn Camping Resort - Norway

  • It has a great view of Lysefjord. You feel completely surrounded by the cliffs.

  • Lots of space to choose from.

  • Clean bathroom facilities

  • Prime spot to watch people base jumping off the surrounding cliffs.

  • Close to lots of hiking trails, including Kjerag/Kjeragbolten (you can start from here and walk up the road for an hour to the start of the trail or you can do the quick 15 minute drive up to the parking lot).

Caravan Club Levsnäs, Sollerön - Sweden

Address: Sollerö Camping, 792 90 Sollerön, Sweden

Website: http://sollerocamping.se/home/

Why we loved it:

  • We pitched our tent literally 1 metre from the lake and had tons of space to ourselves.

  • Because it was a spectacularly sunny day we rented a boat and paddled all around. It is a HUGE lake (the 6th biggest in Sweden).

  • There a lots of picnic tables available all along the waters edge.

  • Short 5 minute drive to cute little town of Sollerön.

  • Clean bathroom facilities.

Åråshult Camping - Sweden

Address: ÅRÅSHULT 4, 547 92 Gullspång, Sweden

Website: arashultcamping.se

Why we loved it:

  • This has to be the cutest and wackiest campsite I have ever seen. You will find all thoughout the campsite an eclectic mix of random collectables including old school farming tools, figurines, objects, flowers, cooking utensils and lifelike dolls (there is even a little santa cottage).

  • The entire campsite is organised into different sections so you have a lot of privacy in your own allotted space.

  • You can borrow a bicycle free of charge to explore the area.

Enjoy!

Thanks for reading. Have a sunshiny day 😀
